We were asked to unlock a door with a failed oval cylinder lock. This lock is part of a master suite of locks, so the user key and the master key had been tried.
The key doesn’t go in to the cylinder fully. It has about another 1.5mm to go before it can turn in the lock. After managing to get the cam to turn slightly we managed to get the key in and unlock the door.
We took the lock out of the door and fitted a temporary oval cylinder while the failed oval cylinder is sent off to the locksmiths who designed and made this particular master suite. They will either service it and replace any worn parts, or just replace it for new and then return it back to the door it has come out of.
